If you find yourself in Osaka and are looking to experience an authentic taste of traditional Japanese breakfast, look no further than WAREWAREWA. Nestled in the heart of Chuo Ward, this charming café is a hidden gem that beautifully marries quality with affordability, making it a must-visit for locals and visitors alike.

Upon entering WAREWAREWA, you're greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. As a cozy café that serves breakfast early in the day, it's a rare find in the bustling city where many establishments don’t open until much later. The café’s subtle decor and quiet ambiance provide the perfect backdrop for a leisurely meal.

The menu here is centered around traditional Japanese breakfast offerings. Guests can choose from delightful options such as the comforting onigiri (rice ball) assortment, which is delightful for anyone looking to savor a classic meal. One of our patrons, Hina Nakai, shared her experience of enjoying the onigiri set, which comes beautifully presented with three distinct rice balls, miso soup, grilled salmon, fried eggs, and a side of fresh vegetables. This wholesome ensemble is not just visually appealing but also comforting, offering a hearty start to your day. The onigiri provides a welcome taste of Japanese culture, and you might even find it is a perfect dish to share with your Japanese friends!

Another notable choice is the tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet) that a guest—Tan Zen Lin—described with appreciation for its subtle flavors and fresh ingredients. A simple yet refined dish, the tamagoyaki complements the breakfast perfectly, highlighting the café's commitment to clean, intentional flavors. It is this respect for the essence of the ingredients that keeps visitors like Anna returning. She remarked on feeling welcomed by the staff, who ensure that every explanation of the menu is made accessible, making it a fantastic spot for both locals and those exploring Japanese cuisine for the first time.

While the food is primarily well-received, it’s worth noting that some patrons, like Jimmy D, experienced a bit of a wait during busy hours. However, the relaxed pace and quiet atmosphere allow for a pleasant morning experience, ideal for sipping hot tea while you soak in the calm surroundings. The affordability of the dishes makes any minor delays easy to overlook, ensuring that you leave satisfied without a dent in your wallet.

Whether you're a local looking to savor a traditional breakfast or a traveler eager to explore the culinary landscape of Osaka, WAREWAREWA offers an intimate setting to enjoy the wonderful flavors of Japan. Don't miss the chance to indulge in a breakfast that balances simplicity with depth; it’s a journey worth taking!

I came 5 minutes before the doors opened and I was the first one there. 2 other groups immediately arrived. Food was acceptable but arrived slow. It’s nice to have a place serving Japanese breakfast that’s open this early. That’s rare. Salmon was dry. It could be made fresher, but the price was affordable. Quiet atmosphere. Staff could be more hospitable, however. They’re blunt, but friendly enough. Would I come back? Not really. I’d rather eat at other establishments.

As a foreigner living in Japan, I sometimes feel nervous entering small local restaurants, but here I felt very welcome. The atmosphere is warm, and the staff tried their best to explain the menu slowly. Prices are very reasonable for the quality. Highly recommend for both locals and foreigners.

I went there on Friday morning and the restaurant was not that busy! It has two breakfast menus; onigiri (rice ball) or toast. I got onigiri because I thought it would be great for my mom-Japanese friend to enjoy Japanese breakfast. And he was so satisfied with food! Onigiri breakfast comes with 3 rice balls, miso soup, grilled salmon, fried eggs, some vege, and hot tea! You can get 3 different flavors for rice balls If you stay in Namba and are not sure where to get breakfast, then go there! You may be happy with it!

Coming from a tropical country, we’re so used to bold, heavy flavors—but the breakfast here was a beautiful, refreshing contrast. Everything tasted clean, natural, and intentional. No overpowering seasoning—just delicate layers of umami, texture, and care. The trio of rice balls was a highlight, each with a distinct character. The miso soup with mushrooms warmed the soul, while the tamagoyaki was perfectly balanced with grated daikon. We also tried the ochazuke set, and the pour-over broth moment felt like a quiet ceremony in itself. This kind of breakfast doesn’t just fill you—it centers you. Light yet satisfying, it was the perfect fuel for a long day of Expo exploration. Highly recommend for anyone seeking an honest, nourishing start in Osaka.
